Yaariyan is a 2007 Indian Hindi detective action thriller film directed by Vikram Bhatt. It stars Emraan Hashmi, Lisa Ray, Amitabh Bachchan and Mithun Chakraborty in lead roles. The movie was dubbed into Telugu as Khadgam. The film is based on the novel by the same name written by award-winning author, Manoj Kesharwani, who wrote for this movie under the pen-name Sudhakar Sharma. The story revolves around five friends who are all at different stages of their lives and have disparate ambitions of making it big in various professions ranging from being an airline pilot to an engineer. The movie begins with the five friends (Raju, Kaka, Meet, Pinku and Rau) taking a train trip from their native town of Varanasi to Mumbai for a board interview for various jobs. Their journey towards their destiny is fraught with suspense and danger. The story lays emphasis on the importance of friendship and how it helps in keeping your life in balance.The soundtrack was composed by Anand Raj Anand and lyrics were penned by Sameer. In July 2012, director Vikram Bhatt announced on Twitter that he is working on a sequel to "Yaariyan", titled "Yaariyan 2". This announcement led to speculations over the film's release date. However, Bhatt later Tweeted that he will not be releasing "Yaariyan 2" at the same time as "Yaariyan". He also stated that the film's script is very different from its predecessor. Lisa Ray walked out of the film after her mother passed away because of cancer. During an interview she said that she was very sad for leaving the project, but that there are no hard feelings between her and Vikram Bhatt. She says, "He is a nice guy and he has been really supportive throughout since I left the film owing to my mother’s illness. I think he understands. I have been in touch with him too, though we have never met, and he has been really supportive. He is a really good human being." In February 2011 it was reported that the film would be released on 30 December 2011. In January 2012 it was reported that the film would be released in March 2012.
